Detection and attribution studies are useful to understand the extent to which observed changes in natural or socio-economic sectors are caused by climate change or any other direct human influence. Such studies focus on discerning and quantifying the human influence on physical variables and processes and their implications for natural and socioeconomic sectors. ISIpedia D&A studies try to answer a broad range of questions such as “Is the increase in maize production induced by improving climate conditions or actually due to increasing fertilizer input?” or “Is the increase in damage induced by river floods due to changing climate conditions or due to the fact that more people live close to the river?”
